The Babadook is worth all the hype

Wednesday, August 12, 2015 was a Netflix night, as I signed on and settled on The Babadook (2014). I knew absolutely nothing going into this flick. There has been a bit of buzz and critical acclaim over this film. I heard that The Babadook may have also reinvigorated the horror genre, and we can expect more similar movies very soon. After hearing all this hoopla, I would be quite upset if The Babadook let me down. Fortunately, I found this film to be definitely entertaining. It starts out a little slow, but the story builds up, and the characters draw you in. The Babadook is an original ghost story, I can’t think of anything quite similar to it. The house in the movie seemed spooky, the book seems like a cool read, and the actors did a good job. I was almost even spooked myself, while watching this, I repeat ‘almost’. I can recommend The Babadook to anyone, in the mood for a tale of the supernatural.

Avoid this Roommate at all costs!

On Wednesday, August 5, 2015, I tuned to FXM On Demand, to see what was available. What I found was a thriller, released in 2011, entitled The Roommate. In the flick, a design student named Sara, played by Minka Kelly, from Iowa has just enrolled at a university in Los Angeles. Sara is sharing her dorm room with Rebecca, played by Leighton Meester. The two roommates become very close, very quick, but Sara decides to mingle with other people. This causes a very violent change in behavior for Rebecca. I found The Roommate to be very slow pace and boring. The plot was nothing special. It was basically a prequel to Fatal Attraction or Single White Female, except the main character/psycho bitch is starting college. My favorite parts were the unexpected cameos from Vampire Diaries co-stars Kat Graham and Nina Dobrev! I rarely ever say this but The Roommate is an hour and a half of my life, that I will never get back!

Oh Hell No!

Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! premiered on SyFy on Wednesday, July 22, 2015. I did not bother to watch it, nor have I seen the previous two films in their entirety. Nor do I want to.
