It’s October 21, 2015, and it’s Back to the Future Day. Today is the day that Marty McFly visits, in order to alter the course of his son’s life. He has one job. He must take the place of his son at the diner, and opt out of the bank job. He did what he had to do. Now that the mission was complete, he decided to reward himself with a Sports almanac. By doing so, he inadvertently changed the future for thousands of people living in Hill Valley. In order to fix everything, he would need to make two more movies. And great movies they were.
Back to the Future II had made many predictions for what was to come almost 30 years later. Those predictions include the championship of the Chicago Cubs (which hangs in the balance as we speak), hoverboards, self-fitting clothes, a pizza that expands, flying cars, drones, Jaws 19 with a shark hologram, and live streaming video. A few of those predictions came true such as drones. And I’m sure the rest is in the works. We’ll just have to wait a little longer for a self-expanding pizza!
I heard there are a ton of events happening in California today. Supposedly they have the Twin Pines Mall sign on display at the original mall in the film. And there might be something going on at the site of the Burger King from Part I. This makes me wish I lived in California. The hype is incredible. Everyone everywhere is talking about these movies today. From radio dj’s to talk show hosts, and bloggers like myself. Back to the Future is the topic of the day wherever you go, whether you like it or not. I also appreciate how some people have analyzed the films, and pointed out hidden messages that most of us missed.
The entire Back to the Future trilogy is a great one. But Part II is easily my favorite. I like how they go from the 80’s to 2015, and back to the 80’s, then to the 50’s, then back again to the 80’s! The variety in timelines is what I love most. I believe this is the only film, from this trilogy, that I saw at the theatre. And this is one of the few Part II’s that is better than the original, in my opinion. I actually wrote about Back to the Future a few months ago, when I discovered that Michael J. Fox was not the original Marty McFly. But I can’t write enough about this trilogy, so I’m back at it.
In closing, I must mention something that no one else has pointed out. Its funny how the flying DeLorean runs on Mr. Fusion. No one predicted that K-cups would dominate coffee in the future! But I can’t blame anyone. I can’t see K-cups as anything more than a passing fad. I am actually quite satisfied with my Mr. Coffee, even though Keurig seems to be all the rage in the past five years. By the way, no one uses a fax machine anymore!
