Happy Back to the Future Day

It’s October 21, 2015, and it’s Back to the Future Day. Today is the day that Marty McFly visits, in order to alter the course of his son’s life. He has one job. He must take the place of his son at the diner, and opt out of the bank job. He did what he had to do. Now that the mission was complete, he decided to reward himself with a Sports almanac. By doing so, he inadvertently changed the future for thousands of people living in Hill Valley. In order to fix everything, he would need to make two more movies. And great movies they were.

Back to the Future II had made many predictions for what was to come almost 30 years later. Those predictions include the championship of the Chicago Cubs (which hangs in the balance as we speak), hoverboards, self-fitting clothes, a pizza that expands, flying cars, drones, Jaws 19 with a shark hologram, and live streaming video. A few of those predictions came true such as drones. And I’m sure the rest is in the works. We’ll just have to wait a little longer for a self-expanding pizza!

I heard there are a ton of events happening in California today. Supposedly they have the Twin Pines Mall sign on display at the original mall in the film. And there might be something going on at the site of the Burger King from Part I. This makes me wish I lived in California. The hype is incredible. Everyone everywhere is talking about these movies today. From radio dj’s to talk show hosts, and bloggers like myself. Back to the Future is the topic of the day wherever you go, whether you like it or not. I also appreciate how some people have analyzed the films, and pointed out hidden messages that most of us missed.

The entire Back to the Future trilogy is a great one. But Part II is easily my favorite. I like how they go from the 80’s to 2015, and back to the 80’s, then to the 50’s, then back again to the 80’s! The variety in timelines is what I love most. I believe this is the only film, from this trilogy, that I saw at the theatre. And this is one of the few Part II’s that is better than the original, in my opinion. I actually wrote about Back to the Future a few months ago, when I discovered that Michael J. Fox was not the original Marty McFly. But I can’t write enough about this trilogy, so I’m back at it.

In closing, I must mention something that no one else has pointed out. Its funny how the flying DeLorean runs on Mr. Fusion. No one predicted that K-cups would dominate coffee in the future! But I can’t blame anyone. I can’t see K-cups as anything more than a passing fad. I am actually quite satisfied with my Mr. Coffee, even though Keurig seems to be all the rage in the past five years. By the way, no one uses a fax machine anymore!

The Commish is the new captain on Gotham

I loved watching The Commish on TV back in the day. And I was totally surprised to see the lead actor, Michael Chiklis back on the small screen again. I was switching channels on Monday, October 12, 2015, while waiting for my roommate, before having a night out with friends and football, at the local pub. I decided to check out Gotham at the moment they announced their new captain. They couldn’t have picked a better actor. Michael Chiklis is back and he’s doing what he does best. His character took over that precinct and cleaned up real quick. Then he recruited some new graduates from the academy to join his new task force. I’ve actually never considered watching Gotham before. When it comes to the world of comic books, I am strictly a Marvel fan and I could care less for DC or Image or anything else that is not Marvel. Call me crazy but that’s how I am. But now that Michael Chiklis is on this Batman prequel, I might need to reconsider things. I also love a good cop drama so I will definitely check out more of Gotham.

For a feel good time, watch Liv on iZombie

iZombie surprised me with an all new season premiere on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 on the CW. The first episode aired back in March. Season One was a good season. I thought I was gonna have to wait, till March of next year, for the next season. I’m so glad to see new episodes already!

This series is about a medical student named Liv Moore, who was engaged, until she was transformed into a zombie, because she was in the wrong place, at the wrong time. Her life has been completely turned around. Now she works as a Medical Examiner. She also has easy access to her restricted diet of brains, which she needs to add a ton of hot sauce, in order to taste anything. After consuming brains, she receives personality traits from the victim, as well as visions which led to their demise. She also works with a detective, to help solve crimes, while pretending to be a psychic.

Season Two picked up where the last season left off. And this season is off to a good start. Liv ate the brain of a grumpy old man. So it was hilarious to watch a woman in her twenties playing a man in his sixties. There are also a couple new characters this season, ready to throw a monkey wrench into the trials and tribulations of Liv. But if they didn’t pose any sort of threat, then things would be boring. The writers have to make it interesting.

iZombie is funny, smart, and it will make you feel good. So tune into the CW on Tuesday evenings for a daily dose of the living dead. That’s what I would do.
