Can The Unborn be removed from my memory?

I don’t watch supernatural thrillers often, and The Unborn (2009) is part of the reason why. I had added this film to my queue quite some time ago, and finally got to it on Tuesday, November 24, 2015. Starring Odette Annable, and featuring a very familiar supporting cast which includes Gary Oldman, Meagan Good, Carla Gugino, Idris Elba, plus two guys from the Showtime series, Dexter, I thought this would be good view. But I was sadly mistaken. This flick is about a student who begins to experience visitations from her twin brother who passed during childbirth. This little boy wants to be born again, and he wants it now. It was about 15 minutes into the movie, when I began to realize that this movie is not worth my time. The student, played by Annable, was seeing the apparition of the little boy everywhere, and I mean everywhere: in the bathroom mirror, at school, in the nightclub, outside her window, in the woods; and she seemed barely fazed by it. Anyone else would be freaking out! After the initial encounters, the movie only goes down from there. Apparently, the spirit of this little boy might be a demon, capable of bashing through foot thick brick walls. There are a few impressive special effects, but they are not worth seeing the movie for. Save an hour and a half of your life, and watch anything else besides The Unborn.

You’re a disease, and I’m the cure.

Cobra (1986) is not the type of movie that I would typically write a review about. But Cobra is not your typical movie. Cobra is an all-around awesome cop/action/drama classic. I believe the last time I saw this film was back in the late eighties. And I got the chance to experience this underrated gem again on Sunday, November 16, 2015 on the El Rey Network. Sylvester Stallone plays Marion ‘Cobra’ Cobretti, and this boy is bad ass! He drives a classic car, and clips off the corner a slice of pizza, with scissors! The cast also includes Brigitte Nielson as the model, and Brian Thompson as the Night Slasher. Unfortunately for the model, she was in the wrong place at the wrong time, when she witnessed the Night Slasher busy at work. Now, the Night Slasher must silence her, but he will have to get past Cobra first. This movie has it all. There are shootouts, car chases, action, a damsel in distress, and everything is in perfect balance. I would like to give a big ‘Thank you’ to the El Rey Network for airing this! During the commercial breaks, the presenter also gave some previously unknown trivia about this great flick. He revealed that Sylvester Stallone actually wrote the screenplay, and got some material while he was working on Beverly Hills Cop (1984). He eventually backed out of that project, and all Cobra fans are happy that he did! If you want to see an edgy, gritty, action packed cop drama, with a damsel in distress, then I can definitely recommend Cobra.

Don’t mess with The Strix

The Originals took things to an all new level on Thursday, October 29, 2015. In this episode, Marcel is invited to party with some potential business partners. This new possible alliance is known as the Strix. They started out when Elijah wanted to better the world, but he had to abandon his sires because they turned out to be a bunch of maniacal sociopaths. The Strix is a secret society of ancient vampires who are responsible for countless wars, assassinations and plagues throughout history.

This dastardly bunch also gathers every year to celebrate being the top of the food chain. This year’s meeting takes place in New Orleans, and Marcel is about to face an unexpected challenge. His daylight ring has been taken from him. He must find out who took it, and then he must get it back. If he fails, he dies. May the force be with him, because he is going to need it.

I must say I’m quite shocked in the direction that The Originals have gone. I’m shocked and intrigued at the same time. I’m impressed at how the writers were able to blend vampire lore along with conspiracy theories. This is a very interesting insight into the past of The Originals. And I’m really excited to see how this story will turn out for them.
